Colony-forming or solitary ascidians.
Body divided into thorax and abdomen or undivided. Gonad unpaired and lying within or behind the loop of the intestine. Oviduct and spermduct follow the rectum to the anus. Neural gland ventral to the neural ganglion. Tentacles simple. Peribranchial cavities develop as a pair of lateral and independent ectodermal sacs, later fusing mid-dorsally to form the atrial siphon.
